For more than 18 years, FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology) has been designing accessible and innovative robotics programs for middle and high-school age students that stimulate and build science and technology knowledge as well as self-confidence, innovation and leadership skills in America’s next generation of engineers and scientists.  Founded by inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST’s vision is “To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes.”

FIRST’s accomplishments, reach and growth have been extraordinary. Today FIRST engages approximately 45,000 high school students, 100,000+ middle-school-age students, 75,000 volunteers and 2,000+ corporate sponsors with a budget of $30 million.  FIRST leadership has set a goal of: engage 15% of US public schools over the next 5 years; greatly expanding the number of student, volunteer and corporate participants domestically and abroad; conducting prospective evaluations of the effect on student education and career opportunities and choices; and, elevating the public’s regard and acclaim for intellectual and engineering achievement.

Vice President for Development

FIRST is seeking a seasoned and entrepreneurial fundraising executive who has, or aspires to work on a national and international stage to help bring FIRST to its next level of accomplishment.  Reporting to the President, the VP will be responsible for designing and providing the leadership for implementing a comprehensive development program to expand and enhance corporate sponsorship participation; major and planned gifts from individuals; annual giving; and, foundation support.   He/she will also plan and execute a decentralized fund raising strategy that will utilize FIRST’s volunteer Regional Executive Advisory Boards and regional staff to raise funds to support local FIRST teams and tournaments.

The ideal candidate will bring a history of accomplished leadership for complex regional or national organizations, with special strength in high level corporate relations, principal gift solicitations and managing rapid program growth.  Nominations and expressions of interest may be sent confidentially to:
