Reach Out and Read
Development and Communications Assistant

Position
Reach Out and Read seeks a Development/Communications Assistant to provide administrative, project, and event support for the Communications and Development departments.  Overall responsibilities include:
            -           Prepare letters, reports, memos, forms, statistical tables, and reports
            -           Assist with coordination and implementation of all departmental program-related activities
            -           Typing, answering phones, proofreading, and the distribution of documents.
            -           Help to ensure that the office runs smoothly, efficiently and professionally on a daily basis

Responsibilities Specific to Development:
            -           Maintain fundraising database and is responsible for gift entry, processing, and                   acknowledgment of donations.
            -           Keep electronic records of all donations and communication
            -           Provide special event support, including mailings, registrations lists, and other event logistics support
            -           Prepare information packets, development materials, mailings, and other correspondence
            -           Maintains prospect and proposal "trackers" and master funder list
            -           Assist local ROR programs in obtaining development and fundraising information, prospects, and materials.

Responsibilities specific to Communications:
            -           Assist in creating and/or revising development materials (Annual Fund Letter, newsletter,   informational material, etc.)
            -           Prepare press kits and maintains press clippings
            -           Maintain cause-related marketing file

Other Duties:
            -           Prepare presentations, notices, agendas and reports related to specific projects
            -           Provide backup support for receptionist during breaks and time out of the office
            -           Attend off-site workshops, meetings, and other functions as necessary 

Qualifications:
            -           Interest in working in nonprofit sector
            -           Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Publisher and Power Point
            -           Previous experiences in Sage, a plus
            -           Strong communication, writing and problem solving skills
            -           Team player and detail oriented
            -           Flexible and able to multi-task well
            -           Ability to interact with external audiences and diverse groups.
