Development Director for Children’s Programs

BBCH Development Director for children’s programs

Reports to Associate Vice President for Development.

Plans, organizes and directs events and general development activities which support the operations of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center, including management oversight of Managers leading the Children’s Miracle Network, The Maine Children's Cancer Program (a division of the children's hospital) and other specialized children’s hospital related philanthropy events. The BBCH Development Director is responsible for overseeing the positive engagement of hundreds of volunteers, contributors and the cost effective and efficient management of all events with the intent of increasing dollars and volunteer leadership and participation annually.

The BBCH Development Director supervises a professional team of two managers and three Coordinator's and hundreds of volunteers.  The Director attends many early morning, evening and weekend meetings and events during the year.  The BBCH Development Director will attend the MCCP Board meetings as necessary.

The BBCH Development Director's oversight includes identification, cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of sponsors and donors. Operational responsibilities include strategic oversight and management of events, direct mail, solicitation, acknowledgment and recognition of contributions and final approval of event related print and media materials. 

The Director shall also communicate and coordinate regularly with the major gifts team in the identification and cultivation of major gift prospects. Also responsible for coordination of other fund-raising related tasks as assigned by the AVP for Development.

Bachelor's Degree and continuous professional development in philanthropy and related fields. CFRE certification preferred.

Excellent management, communications, writing, research and public speaking and customer service skill.  Ability to assess donor capacity and intent and strategize donor stewardship and cultivation activities which will lead to donations and sponsorships.  Previous philanthropy experience in a non-profit environment at a level normally acquired with seven+ years experience or experience in a closely related field including active donor and volunteer relations.  Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as required for donor and volunteer visits and meetings and special events.
