is seeking a Director of Development & Communications.
This hands-on position plans and implements the strategic
philanthropy and internal communication efforts of
Maine's largest private psychiatric teaching
hospital. The Director is
the senior philanthropy and communications professional for the hospital
and will work closely with current donors, prospects, foundations,
referral sources, the media, community groups, patients & families, and
the public at large. The
Director is responsible for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
of donors through annual fund, targeted appeals, and occasional events.
The position also oversees the development of all internal
communications for the hospital.
The position establishes and conveys a consistent and
high-quality public image for
Spring
Harbor through
communications media and philanthropy activities.

Job Requirements
The qualified candidate has a proven non-profit fund-raising /
development track record (preferably in major gifts and capital
campaigns), as well as the ability to communicate clearly and concisely,
orally and in writing. Also
required is experience developing and successfully launching e-media
communication plans and vehicles (blogs, social networks, podcasts,
webinars, etc) as well as print publication and web design experience.
Working knowledge of desktop publishing, graphics, and database
software is a must.
Experience in crisis communication and in working effectively with media
contacts at the local, regional, and national level is expected.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g. public relations, journalism,
communications, marketing) or bachelor's degree with five to seven years
of relevant experience.
Desirable experience includes Certified Fund Raising Executive,
supervisory skills, photography experience, publishing or editorial
experience.
